Why I Made My Own Iced Chai Tea Recipe

When you make the definitive choice to jump back on the natural food wagon, one of the hardest things to give up isn’t the heavy meals—it’s the comforting daily rituals. If you love grabbing an iced chai tea but don’t want the processed corn syrups, artificial flavorings, and overwhelming walls of sugar that trigger inflammation and crash your energy, you aren’t alone. Turning the page means realizing you don’t have to live in deprivation. You just have to learn to craft things honestly.

I set out to create a 100% clean, stomach-safe alternative using our core pantry assets. If you’ve ever tried throwing raw spices straight into iced tea, you already know the frustrating reality: warm spices like cinnamon, ginger, and allspice are naturally waterproof, leaving you with dry, gritty clumps floating right on top of your glass. After a bit of kitchen trial and error, I found the ultimate workaround. By locking the spices into a warm, raw honey slurry before introducing the liquid, they integrate into the tea more smoothly. Combined with low-fat milk to completely neutralize the stomach-irritating tannins found in strong black tea, this recipe delivers a smooth, deeply comforting morning ritual that loves your body back.

From naturalfood365.com.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups boiling water
  • 8 black tea bags
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup pure honey
  • 2 tsps ground Allspice
  • 2 tsps ground Cinnamon
  • 2 tsps ground Ginger

Instructions

  • Place tea bags in heat safe carafe. Pour 5 cups of boiling water over them. Let steep on counter 30 minutes, then place in refrigerator to finish steeping overnight.
  • Once tea has steeped, remove tea bags.
  • Measure the hone into a 1 cup heat safe glass meaure
  • Add the spices. Stir and mix until it looks like slurry with all the spices stirred into the honey. Let stand for 5-10 minutes so spices have time to "bloom" and fully release their flavor.
  • Pour 1/2 cup of boiling water over the slurry mixture and stir well until honey is dissolved and all is combined.
  • Pour the slurry mix into the carafe of tea using the remaining 1/2 cup of boiling water to rinse all of the honey slurry into the carafe.
  • Stir and mix the tea and spices to combine.
  • Store in sealed carafe in the refrigerator.

To Serve:

  • Stir tea in carafe to recombine spices.
  • Pour 1 cup of tea mix over ice in a glass.
  • Add 1/4 cup low fat milk and stir.

Notes:

  • Some of the spices tend to settle so stir occasionally while drining.
  • Experiment with your batches by adding a little more or less of each spice to create the balance you feel tastes the best.
